Acute lesions predominate in sudden coronary deaths; extends autopsy correlations but leaves open causal mechanisms.
A. Vesterby (1981) conducted a case-control in Sudden unexpected death due to coronary heart disease (n=45). Coronary sclerosis leading to sudden death vs. Sex and age matched control group was evaluated on Extent of arteriosclerosis in major coronary arteries and conduction system. Postmortem analysis revealed significantly more extensive arteriosclerosis in the major coronary and sinus node arteries among sudden death victims compared to matched controls.
