High-intensity magnetic field exposure fails to alter heart rate variability compared to control.
Why the study?
Previous studies suggested that exposure to intermittent magnetic fields may alter heart rate variability and increase mortality in cardiac disease, but effects of strong ELF magnetic fields on cardiac autonomic control remain unclear.

High-intensity magnetic field exposure requires no HRV precautions; confirms absence of acute autonomic effects in this RCT.
Graham et al. (2000) studied this question. High-intensity extremely low frequency (ELF) magnetic fields vs. No-exposure control condition was evaluated on Heart rate variability (HRV) spectral analysis measures and phase-resetting of cardiac rhythm. Exposure to high-intensity (127.3 microT) intermittent or continuous magnetic fields did not alter heart rate variability measures compared to a no-exposure control condition.
