Individuals heterozygous for the reciprocal translocation between chromosomes 5B and 7B, found in the wheat variety Poso, produced a high proportion (8 in sample of 21) of gametes involving duplication and deficiency of segments of those chromosomes. In crosses with Aegilops peregrina it was determined that these gametes are not usually deficient for the segment of the long arm of chromosome 5B that suppresses homoeologous pairing. Translocation aneuploid stocks are being produced which can be expected to give rise to a high degree of wheat-alien homoeologous pairing.
