Additional ablation beyond CPVI fails to improve long-term sinus rhythm maintenance in persistent AF.
Why the study?
The efficacy and safety of catheter ablation for persistent atrial fibrillation have been reported in few studies, with unclear long-term outcomes.

Additional ablation beyond CPVI was not associated with better sinus rhythm maintenance in persistent AF; leaves open optimal lesion sets pending randomized trials.
Wang et al. (2018) conducted a case-control in Persistent atrial fibrillation (n=92). Circumferential pulmonary vein isolation (CPVI) combined with additional ablation vs. CPVI alone was evaluated on Long-term sinus rhythm maintenance rate after a single procedure (p=0.152). In patients with persistent atrial fibrillation, long-term sinus rhythm maintenance was not significantly different between CPVI combined with additional ablation and CPVI alone (35.1% vs 48.6%, p=0.152).
