Two new coordination compounds [Cd(L)2(H2O)2]·H2O and [Mn(L)2(H2O)2]·H2O are synthesized under solvothermal conditions by reacting (1H-tetrazol-5-yl)urea formed from cyanuric triazide (2,4,6-triazido-1,3,5-triazine) in an alkaline medium during an attempt to carry out the [2+3]-cycloaddition reaction with methyl ester of propargyl acid. Both compounds are characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction and IR spectroscopy. The compounds are isostructural and crystallize in orthorhombic space group C2221. The central ions are in a six-coordinated environment with the octahedral geometry. These products are the first examples of (1H-tetrazol-5-yl)urea coordination compounds.
