This study assessed the contribution made by knowledge of religion and religious belief in moderating the effect of the grieving process on 57 subjects who had reported a significant bereavement within the last 5 years. Degree of Christian knowledge or depth of commitment to Christian beliefs did not moderate either depression OT hopelessness. However, reporting a belief in God, irrespective of the degree of this belief, did appear to be associated with lower levels of both depression and hopelessness.
