Key result
Non-adherence to CERDIK lifestyle behaviors is linked to higher incidence and severity of hypertension.
Why the study?
Hypertension is a prevalent health problem among pre-elderly due to degenerative processes and unhealthy lifestyles, with unclear relationships to CERDIK behaviors.
Does implementation of CERDIK behaviors prevent or reduce the severity of hypertension in pre-elderly individuals?
Cross-Sectional (n=143)
No

p-value: p=0.000
Implementation of healthy lifestyle behaviors (CERDIK) is significantly associated with lower blood pressure and reduced severity of hypertension in pre-elderly individuals.
Supports potential role of CERDIK behaviors in reducing hypertension severity among pre-elderly; hypothesis-generating and requires prospective studies before practice change.
Hypertension remains a prevalent global health problem, particularly among the pre-elderly (45-59 years) due to degenerative processes and unhealthy lifestyles. CERDIK behaviors (regular health checks, quitting smoking, physical activity, balanced diet, adequate rest, and stress management) are preventive efforts to reduce non-communicable disease risk factors. This cross-sectional study examined the relationship between CERDIK behaviors and hypertension among 143 pre-elderly respondents in Kiara Payung Village, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected via a CERDIK questionnaire and blood pressure measurements, then analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Most respondents had non-implemented CERDIK behavior (66.4%) and grade I hypertension (55.9%), with a significant relationship found between the two (p=0.000). Improved health education on CERDIK behavior, especially routine check-ups and physical activity, is needed to prevent hypertension in this group.

Ramadhani et al. (2026) conducted a cross-sectional in Hypertension (n=143). Non-implementation of CERDIK behaviors vs. Implementation of CERDIK behaviors was evaluated on Incidence and grade of hypertension (p=0.000). The non-implementation of CERDIK preventive behaviors was significantly associated with a higher incidence and severity of hypertension among pre-elderly individuals (p=0.000).
