Endomyocardial biopsy confirms cardiac amyloid deposits across five patients, predominantly identifying AL-amyloidosis.
Why the study?
Unexplained abnormal thickening of the interventricular septum with rapidly progressive heart failure may be caused by cardiac amyloid deposits detectable by endomyocardial biopsy.
Case Report (n=5)

Supports biopsy for amyloid subtyping in select phenotypes; leaves open its broader diagnostic role pending prospective data.
Frenzel et al. (1986) conducted a case report in Cardiac amyloidosis (n=5). Endomyocardial biopsy was evaluated on Cardiac amyloid deposits identified by light microscopic, ultrastructural, and immunohistochemical studies. Endomyocardial biopsy revealed cardiac amyloid deposits in 5 patients, identifying A-lambda amyloidosis in 4 patients with septal thickening and AA-amyloidosis in 1 patient with FMF.
