Targeted acupressure lowers systolic blood pressure by ~14 mmHg.
Why the study?
Hypertension is common in menopausal women due to hormonal changes affecting the cardiovascular system, and complementary therapies like acupressure are used to reduce blood pressure.

Acupressure at specific points significantly reduced systolic and diastolic blood pressure in menopausal women, suggesting its utility as a complementary non-pharmacological therapy.
May support acupressure for BP reduction in menopausal hypertension; hypothesis-generating without controls and requires RCTs.
Hypertension is one of the health problems commonly experienced by menopausal women due to hormonal changes that affect the cardiovascular system. Complementary therapies such as acupressure have been used as a non-pharmacological method to reduce blood pressure by stimulating specific points on the body associated with relaxation and blood circulation. This study aimed to determine the effect of acupressure therapy on reducing blood pressure in menopausal women with hypertension. The research method used was a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest without control group approach. The intervention was carried out for 7 days at the LI11, ST36, and LV3 points for 15 minutes in each session. The results showed a significant decrease in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure after acupressure therapy was administered. In conclusion, acupressure is effective as a complementary therapy to help reduce blood pressure in menopausal women with hypertension

Suhro et al. (2026) studied Hypertension in menopausal women (n=20). Acupressure therapy (LI11, ST36, and LV3 points) vs. Baseline (pre-intervention) was evaluated on Systolic blood pressure (MD -14, p=0.001). Acupressure therapy applied to points LI11, ST36, and LV3 significantly reduced mean systolic blood pressure from 152 mmHg to 138 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure from 94 mmHg to 86 mmHg (p=0.001).
