The corrosion behavior of nickel-based Alloys 600, 617, and Hastelloy N in molten LiCl salt at 635°C for 100 h under an argon atmosphere was investigated using various technologies. Results showed that the preferential depletion of Cr observed for all alloys in the molten LiCl salt is consistent with the observed pit formation. The experimental data consistently indicated that Hastelloy N, with a low pristine Cr content, is more resistant to corrosion than Alloys 600 and 617 in molten LiCl salt. The analytical results show that there is a positive correlation between the pristine Cr content of the alloy and its corrosion in molten LiCl salt.
