Purpose The purpose of this study is to evaluate the influence of core- and effect-yarn overfeed parameters on the air-jet texturing (AJT) of stretchable spun-like elastomultiester (T400) polyester yarns and to establish the optimum overfeed conditions for the production of spun-like stretchable textured yarns. Design/methodology/approach T400 AJT yarns were produced using a standard SSM AJT machine using standard commercial nozzles. The effects of core-yarn overfeed and effect-yarn overfeed on yarn structure and mechanical properties were systematically investigated. Findings Results show that both core- and effect-yarn overfeeds strongly influence yarn formation. Unlike conventional filament yarns, which can operate at lower overfeeds, T400 filaments require core overfeeds above 10% to achieve stable and effective texturing. Research limitations/implications This study was limited to the AJT Elastomultiester polyester (T400) filaments under a selected range of processing conditions. Practical implications The study supports industry adoption of spun-like T400 stretch yarns, enabling easier recycling and promoting more sustainable and recyclable practices. Originality/value The study demonstrates the feasibility of producing spun-like T400 yarns. This approach eliminates the need for multi-component stretch yarns, thereby supporting sustainable and recyclable high-performance textile manufacturing.
