We extend the information ontology developed in Paper 3–20 by a speculative, mathematically motivated model for the lifespan of non-biological, energy-based information entities existing within large cosmic structures. Such an entity is defined as a Directed Information Process (DIP), whose existence is bound to the coherent dynamics along a path within an energetic structure. We show that the lifespan of such an entity corresponds exactly to the process duration of a round trip between two points of the structure. The lifespan results from the structure size, the effective information velocity, and the energetic patterns of the environment. Additionally, we introduce two concrete models for the maximum information work performance (exponential and saturation models), which limit the disruption rate of the environment and define an event horizon for information work. A numerical example demonstrates how many real seconds remain for a DIP at the target location before its own information work renders the return journey impossible. Immortality is ontologically excluded, as life is defined as a process, and processes are necessarily finite.
