We report the first voucher-based record of Cyttarops alecto from the Chocó region of Ecuador. The specimen, an adult male captured at Reserva Tesoro Escondido, Esmeraldas Province, represents the second locality west of the Andes in South America and the first voucher-based record for the Ecuadorian Chocó. Identification was supported by external and cranial morphology and by COI and Cytb mitochondrial DNA. This record extends the distribution of C. alecto into a major Neotropical biodiversity hotspot and highlights the need for continued surveys in threatened Chocó forests.
