We report herein chiral phosphoric-acid-catalyzed preparation of axially chiral biaryl aldehydes via an unprecedented strategy of enantioselective imine condensation, through either desymmetrization of prochiral substrates or kinetic resolution of racemic atropisomers. The resulting products serve as versatile synthetic intermediates and valuable structural motifs with established applications in asymmetric catalysis and functional materials.
