We present a genome assembly from a tetraploid specimen of Senecio sylvaticus (Heath Groundsel; Streptophyta; Magnoliopsida; Asterales; Asteraceae). The assembly consists of two haplotypes with total lengths of 1,815.56 megabases and 1,770.53 megabases. Haplotypes 1 and 2 each contain 20 chromosomal pseudomolecules; these account for 99.19% and 99.4% of their respective sequences. The mitochondrial genome assembly has a length of 270.09 kilobases and the plastid genome assembly has a length of 151.1 kilobases. Gene annotation of this assembly by Ensembl identified 59,358 protein-coding genes. This assembly was generated as part of the Darwin Tree of Life project, which produces reference genomes for eukaryotic species found in Britain and Ireland.
