This study investigates the effect of using computer aided instruction (CAI) teaching Basic Electricity in technical colleges. Specifically two purposes and two objectives were drawn to guide the study. Two hypotheses were made for the study and were tested at 0.05 level of confidence. The study adopted a test-retest experimental study and was carried out in Minna, Niger State. The population for the study was 256 which consisted of all the year two (TC II) students in all the five Government technical colleges in the state. A total study of the population was conducted. A Basic electricity achievement test (BEAT) served as the instrument for data collection which was indicated by three experts. The pilot study was conducted Federal Science and Technical College Kuta with 10 respondents each from male and female NTC II students making a total of 20 respondents. The data collected which was based on the performance of the students was subjected to Pearson’s Product Correlation. (PPMC) static which yielded a coefficient of 0.75 pre-test and post-test experimental design was conducted to evaluate the effect of the behavioral change. The data collected was analyzed using Means and Standard deviation and t-test statistics. It was found out that the students performed better when taught using computer aided instruction than these taught with traditional (chalkboard) method and also, the use of computer aided instruction improves the performance of both male and female students equally. Which implies the use of CAI is gender friendly. It was conducted that CAI has positive effect on student academic performance and is gender friendly. It was recommended among other that the use of CAI teaching and learning in schools should be encouraged by the school authorities.
