The feeding activities of Perkinsiella saccharicida Kirkaldy on the midrib of a sugarcane (Saccharum sp.) leaf were recorded electronically. Microsections of leaf tissues were made to correlate stylet position and probing activities. The leafhopper stylets travelled intracellularly at an avg speed of 0.97 μ/sec. The minimum time recorded for a leafhopper to reach phloem and ingest was 110 sec. Distinctive waveforms were recorded for leafhopper ingestion in parenchyma, phloem, xylem, and intercellular space of a sugarcane leaf.
