Case Report (n=1)
This case report highlights the complex inpatient management of a patient presenting with an acute COPD and HFpEF exacerbation who was subsequently diagnosed with ATTR cardiac amyloidosis and evaluated for emerging disease-modifying therapies.
Cardiac amyloidosis usually transpires when systemic amyloid gets deposited within the myocardial tissues, thus sparking the onset of restrictive cardiomyopathy. In this regard, there are two forms of cardiac amyloidosis namely amyloid light chain (ALC) amyloidosis caused by accumulation of immunoglobulin light chains and transthyretin amyloidosis instigated by deposition of transthyretin (ATTR) amyloid.
