GNAS1 T393T genotype links to higher left ventricular mass in hypertensive men.
Why the study?
Left ventricular hypertrophy is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular complications, and the genetic determinants of its progression require further study.

GNAS1 T393T may flag higher LV mass risk in hypertensive men; hypothesis-generating and should not yet change practice.
Aim. Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular complications. Every year the number of publications written concerning the genetic determinism of its progression is increasing. To determine the dependence of LVH on Arg389Gly polymorphisms of β1-adrenoceptor gene (ADRβ1) and T393C of α-subunit of G-protein gene (GNAS1) the echocardiography and polymerase chain reaction were performed in 166 patients with hypertension. Methods and results. It was found that in men, who had T393T genotype, higher levels of left ventricular myocardium mass and index of left ventricular myocardium mass were observed comparing to patients with T393C and C393C genotype of GNAS1 gene.Conclusion. The dependence of these parameters on Arg389Gly polymorphism of ADRβ1 gene was not found.

Iryna Oleksandrivna Dudchenko (2014) conducted a cross-sectional in Hypertension (n=166). GNAS1 T393C and ADRβ1 Arg389Gly polymorphisms vs. Alternative genotypes (e.g., T393C, C393C) was evaluated on Left ventricular myocardium mass (LVMM) in men (p=0.013). In hypertensive men, the T393T genotype of the GNAS1 gene was associated with significantly higher left ventricular myocardium mass and index compared to T393C and C393C genotypes, whereas no dependence was found for the ADRβ1 gene.
