Key result
Soy protein's effect on blood pressure remains uncharacterized in this systematic review.
Why the study?
The evidence for soy protein's ability to lower blood pressure remains unclear despite approved health claims for cholesterol reduction and coronary heart disease risk.
Comparison
Soy protein from different food sources
Design
Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Supports soy protein for BP management; extends its CV role beyond cholesterol lowering.
Objectives: Approved health claims for soy protein and coronary heart disease risk reduction are based on its ability to lower cholesterol. The evidence for its ability to lower blood pressure remains unclear. To clarify the effects of soy protein from different food sources on blood pressure, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs).
