Objectives: Insulin resistance contributes to increased cardiovascular disease risk through impairments in vascular function. Elevated blood glucose impairs endothelial function, resulting in a loss of nitric oxide (NO)-dependent control of vascular tone. Dietary micronutrients may enhance NO bioavailability and mitigate oxidative stress, potentially reducing vascular dysfunction and systemic inflammation. Pre-menopausal women exhibit vasoprotective effects of endogenous estrogen, which are less pronounced in men.
