Reduced orthostatic tolerance in healthy young men is linked to autonomic imbalance and asthenic maladaptation.
Why the study?
The mechanisms underlying reduced orthostatic tolerance in apparently healthy young individuals remain poorly understood.
Cross-Sectional (n=145)
Reduced orthostatic tolerance in apparently healthy young men is driven by an imbalance in the autonomic nervous system associated with asthenic-type maladaptive states.
May guide orthostatic tolerance screening in young men; hypothesis-generating and requires prospective validation before clinical use.
Reduced orthostatic tolerance is one of the factors limiting professional performance. The mechanisms underlying its decline in apparently healthy individuals remain poorly understood. Therefore, the aim of this study was to identify patterns associated with the development of reduced orthostatic tolerance in apparently healthy young men. A comprehensive examination of 145 apparently healthy male volunteers aged 18–25 years was conducted to examine the effects of orthostatic loads (active orthostatic testing) on cardiovascular parameters, the spectral characteristics of heart rate variability, and the relationship between the orthostatic tolerance index and emotional-volitional parameters, sensorimotor responses, and certain metabolic, hematological, and immune parameters. It has been established that reduced orthostatic tolerance in apparently healthy individuals is characterized by a significant imbalance in the autonomic nervous system and is formed through the mechanisms of asthenic-type maladaptive states. The data obtained can be used to predict and correct reduced orthostatic tolerance in apparently healthy individuals.

Kim et al. (2026) conducted a cross-sectional in Reduced orthostatic tolerance in apparently healthy individuals (n=145). Orthostatic loads (active orthostatic testing) was evaluated on Relationship between orthostatic tolerance index, heart rate variability, and physiological/metabolic parameters. Reduced orthostatic tolerance in healthy young men (N=145) was characterized by a significant autonomic nervous system imbalance formed through asthenic-type maladaptive states.
