PER1 deletion increases pulse wave velocity ~42% in male but not female mice.
Should not change practice; leaves open whether PER1 modulates human arterial stiffness.

Sharma et al. (2026) studied Arterial stiffness. Global deletion of PER1 (PER1-KO) vs. Wild-type (WT) mice was evaluated on Pulse wave velocity (PWV) in male mice (p=0.005). Global deletion of PER1 increased pulse wave velocity in male mice (286.9 vs 202 cm/s, P=0.005) but not female mice, indicating a sex-dependent role in the development of arterial stiffness.
