Published 10 years ago, event system theory (EST; Morgeson, Mitchell & Liu, 2015) has become a highly influential organizational theory. EST consists of a complex of three interacting event components: event strength, event space, and event time. It has been used by scholars across domains in a variety of different ways and serves as a key catalyst for event-oriented research and theory. In this article, we reflect upon the development of EST and discuss the impact it has had on the field. We then identify the different ways EST has been used, offer suggestions for studying events, and discuss all the work that still needs to be done.
