This perspective paper reviews recent advancements and explores future, exciting opportunities for both artificial intelligence (AI)‐powered smart displays and AI‐assisted augmented reality (AR) eyeglasses. To begin, we analyze fundamental AI‐enhanced image‐quality techniques, including perceptual resolution upscaling algorithms, tone mapping, reverse tone mapping, and image‐quality analysis. Next, we examine the practical implementations of AI technologies for smart displays, in which both the visual experience and use case of novel display technologies can be improved. Finally, we further explore AI integration into wearable AR glasses, highlighting the enabled capabilities to improve display systems through waveguide combiner optimization and image correction, and exploring recent advances that go beyond color in AR glasses, such as eye tracking, foveated rendering, and physiological sensing. By outlining emerging trends and promising directions for next‐generation display technologies, this perspective will demonstrate the critical role of AI in enabling new capabilities, user experiences, and technological breakthroughs in the field of displays.
