Hiring Has the Wrong Interface argues that the modern hiring system is built around proxies: résumés for capability, job descriptions for organizational need, applications for interest, credentials for competence, and screening for judgment, because richer evidence was historically expensive to produce and evaluate. Generative AI changes that constraint. Rather than using AI to optimize applications and screening, the essay proposes redesigning the hiring interface around more direct evidence of capability, organizational need, genuine constraints, and the reciprocal information needed to evaluate fit. Its central argument is that the goal should not be to make the application process faster, but to make much of the application architecture unnecessary.
