AI can improve the quality and speed of work without establishing whether people are developing the judgement needed to examine evidence, recognise omissions and respond appropriately when circumstances change. This whitepaper examines how AI can remove, enrich or relocate the experiences through which judgement develops. Drawing on research into workplace learning, expertise, AI-assisted performance and human oversight, it distinguishes assisted output from retained understanding and transferable judgement. The paper connects Capability Design and Capability Leadership with Human Judgement Assurance (HJA), proposed as an approach to establishing justified confidence through evidence of development, competent appraisal, effective intervention and sustained capability. It explains HJA’s boundaries and relationship with AI Assurance and Capability Assurance. Leaders, educators and practitioners are invited to begin with one consequential workflow and examine how judgement develops, operates and is renewed.
