Among the various threats limiting the blackgram production, bruchids ( Callosobruchus spp.) are a serious concern, particularly under storage conditions. The present experiments were carried out with 258 Vigna accessions belonging to V. mungo and V. umbellata to identify the potential donors for bruchid ( Callosobruchus maculatus ) resistance. The studies on biological parameters revealed that the percent damage ranged from 0.0 to 95.0%. The results indicated that two blackgram (SYNP-2, BLU-1) and two ricebean wild accessions (PRR 2008-2, PRR 2008-2-sel) were identified as highly resistant (HR) on the basis of percent damage. Further, based on the stability index and GGE biplot analysis, it was demonstrated that these genotypes have the potential of resistance over the year/ environments, considered as stable genotypes. Biochemical analysis showed that tannin, total phenol and flavonoid contents were higher in resistant genotypes compared to susceptible genotypes. These potential donors will serve as genetic stock in a breeding programme for improving the bruchid resistance.
