Achieving high-efficiency Fe removal from secondary aluminum remains a significant challenge. This study presents a new method for Fe removal that combines pulsed magnetic fields (PMF) with filtration. In this study, the PMF were applied during the filtration stage of molten Al-6 Mg-0.5Fe aluminum alloy. A mechanism was proposed in which electromagnetic filtration synergistically enhances electrostatic adsorption. Under the influence of the PMF, the molten aluminum alloy is subjected to electromagnetic forces, creating favorable flow conditions. Through the weak electric field between the molten metal and the ceramic foam filtration (CFF), micron-sized particles and iron-rich phases are attracted to the surface of the CFF. This explains a key reason for the high efficiency of electromagnetic filtration in Fe removal. The study provides new insights for optimizing and upgrading the Fe removal process for secondary aluminum.
