In the era of digital transformation, traditional Business Process Automation (BPA) still faces limitations in handling dynamic, unstructured, and complex decision-making tasks. Agentic Artificial Intelligence (Agentic AI), which is characterized by autonomous agents capable of advanced reasoning, dynamic planning, and multi-step workflow execution, is considered a promising approach to improving the efficiency and adaptability of enterprise operations. This study aims to examine how Agentic AI can be optimized to improve BPA performance within modern digital ecosystems. Using a qualitative approach through a literature study, this paper synthesizes recent academic literature, theoretical models, and technological frameworks related to intelligent automation. The review indicates that integrating Agentic AI into enterprise business architectures has the potential to move beyond rigid, rule-based automation by enabling adaptive problem-solving, real-time context awareness, and cross-system collaboration. The reviewed literature also suggests that autonomous agents may help reduce operational bottlenecks, lower human intervention in routine cognitive workflows, and support more efficient resource allocation across organizational functions. In addition, this study identifies key implementation challenges, including system interoperability, algorithmic transparency, data privacy risks, and the governance mechanisms required for secure deployment. This study contributes to the literature on enterprise automation by proposing strategic considerations for organizations that seek to use digital technology to build more resilient, scalable, and intelligent business processes. Because this is a literature-based study, the findings are conceptual and do not provide empirical evidence of efficiency gains.
