This study examined the current state of children’s playgrounds in Tokyo’s 23 wards. Currently, children’s playgrounds in Tokyo are subject to varying interpretations by each ward. Even in terms of physical space, they fall into two distinct categories: those adhering to the concept of children’s playgrounds, and those adopting different approaches, such as open spaces without play equipment. Given this situation, the study pointed out the need to clarify the distinctions between open spaces, parks, and children’s playgrounds, and to consider reorganizing and refurbishing them according to factors like age demographics.
