A literature survey was conducted on the transition of standards of gravel and sand for concrete. Prewar the specifications were qualitative other than fine particles and organic impurities. Afterwar many quality items were specified in accordance with ASTM C 33 or independently. The trends of standards in Japanese Architectural Standard Specifications, Specifications from Japan Society of Civil Engineers, and Annex of JIS for ready-mixed concrete were investigated, and the factors influencing the revision of regulations were clarified. Simplification of quality items will be expected with reference to the proposal of JCI Committee.
