Dopamine, a pivotal catecholamine, serves as a versatile scaffold in drug design due to its unique pharmacological profile and chemical reactivity. This review integrates evidence on the therapeutic applications of dopamine-derived compounds, ranging from their established roles in treating neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson's disease to emerging innovations in enzyme inhibition, gene delivery, and tissue engineering. Furthermore, we discuss structural modifications aimed at enhancing pharmacokinetic properties and brain bioavailability, alongside the utility of dopamine derivatives as molecular tracers in mapping neural architecture.
