Why the study?
Non-pharmacological interventions have a well-established place in chronic heart failure management, although their level of evidence remains variable.
Do non-pharmacological interventions (fluid restriction, sodium restriction, therapeutic education, exercise rehabilitation, and multidisciplinary management) improve quality of life and reduce hospitalizations and mortality in patients with stable chronic heart failure?
Do non-pharmacological interventions (fluid restriction, sodium restriction, therapeutic education, exercise rehabilitation, and multidisciplinary management) improve quality of life and reduce hospitalizations and mortality in patients with stable chronic heart failure?
In stable chronic heart failure, structured therapeutic education, exercise-based rehabilitation, and multidisciplinary management improve quality of life and reduce hospitalizations, whereas moderate sodium restriction is preferred over strict restriction and systematic fluid restriction lacks sufficient evidence.
Chronic heart failure (CHF) requires precise diagnosis and management combining pharmacological treatments and non-pharmacological interventions. Although their level of evidence remains variable, their place in the management of CHF is now well established. This article summarises data on the main non-pharmacological interventions in patients with stable CHF. Current data remain insufficient to justify systematic fluid restriction, while moderate sodium restriction proves preferable to strict restriction. Structured therapeutic education, exercise-based rehabilitation programs, and multidisciplinary management improve quality of life, reduce hospitalizations and, for certain interventions, mortality.

Askari et al. (2026) conducted a review in Chronic heart failure. Non-pharmacological interventions (fluid and sodium restriction, structured therapeutic education, exercise-based rehabilitation, multidisciplinary management) was evaluated on Quality of life, hospitalizations, and mortality.
