This exploratory qualitative study examines how Reddit-style, multi-character writing assignments shape pre-service teachers’ engagement with historical source material, perspective-taking, and relationship to academic writing. In a writingintensive undergraduate education course, students completed three assignments modeled on different Reddit subreddits, each requiring a threaded discussion among multiple voiced characters. Findings suggest informal digital genres can scaffold disciplinary practices and offer a promising model for teacher education and secondary social studies.
