In today's era, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the education sector by enhancing learning outcomes andpersonalizing educational experiences. This study investigates the effectiveness of AI based adaptive learningsystems in higher education using a quantitative research design involving 300 post graduate students and 48 facultymembers from urban, semi urban, and rural institutions in Odisha, India. Participants were selected throughstratified sampling, and data were gathered through surveys and academic records to compare students usingada ptive learning systems with those in traditional classroom environments. Statistical techniques, includingindependent t tests and one way ANOVA, were employed to analyze AI driven behavioral differences and emergingtrends in the higher education sector. The primary goal is to assess the impact of these systems on academicperformance, student engagement, and retention rates. The results indicate that students, being more digitally adaptive, actively engage with AI tools for personalizedlearning, real time feedback, and independent exploration. Conversely, teachers exhibit a more reserved adoptionpattern, shaped by concerns regarding digital literacy, pedagogical integration, and the need for adequate training.Furthermore, students utilizing adap tive technologies reported increased participation, motivation, and higherretention rates.Despite these positive outcomes, the study identifies key challenges, including technical barriers, initialimplementation costs, and resistance to change among edu cators. The findings underscore that successful AIimplementation depends heavily on institutional readiness and robust infrastructure. The study recommends targetedteacher training, equitable access to technology, and the development of inclusive, contex t sensitive AI tools toensure effective and equitable integration across diverse educational landscapes. Ultimately, these insights provide astrategic roadmap for educators and policymakers seeking to optimize the integration of AI in higher education.
