This paper presents implementation of an all-optical CMOS logic inverter for the first time using photonic crystal (PhC) waveguides under two-dimensional (2D) silicon structure. The proposed device realized free of nonlinear materials, and it is operated with interference phenomena. The proposed structure has lattice constant of 0.6 μm and is simulated using finite-difference time-domain approach with transverse electric (TE) polarization under wavelength of 1,550 nm. Presented PhC structure realized within a footprint of 108 μm 2 with low insertion losses of 0.014 dB. The design offers strong logic discrimination levels of logic “0” as 0.025 and logic “1” as 0.968, high extinction ratio (ER) of 15.87 dB.
