Determining fair compensation in expropriation has been a considerable challenge, especially in developing economies like Uganda, leading to prolonged disputes, opposition, and impoverishment of those affected. The capability approach has been presented as a solution to this problem; therefore, this study assessed the adequacy of land expropriation compensation in Uganda using the capability approach, drawing on data from project-affected persons. The findings indicate that demographics like age, education levels, household size and financial considerations are crucial in rural agrarian communities, highlighting the need for personalised and customised compensation packages based on the capability approach.
