This study presents a preliminary Python-based simulation for comparing estimated optical power loss across five hypothetical fiber-optic routes. The model considers fiber attenuation and connector losses to estimate total link loss, output optical power, and power margin relative to an illustrative receiver threshold. The simulation assumes an input power of 5 dBm, a fiber attenuation coefficient of 0.2 dB/km, a connector loss of 0.3 dB per connector, and a receiver threshold of −1 dBm. Under these assumptions, four of the five simulated routes meet the selected threshold. Route A has the highest estimated output power, while Route E falls below the threshold by 0.2 dB. The results are illustrative and are based on hypothetical route configurations rather than field measurements. The model does not represent validation of an operational fiber network. Further work should incorporate equipment specifications, verified fiber parameters, and actual field measurements. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate a simple and reproducible computational approach for comparing hypothetical fiber routes based on estimated optical power loss.
