Diabetes is a global health problem; it is a chronic disease and is now growing as an epidemic in both developed and developing countries. People with diabetes mellitus develop foot ulcers because of neuropathy, vascular insufficiency, and impaired wound healing. Asian patients have more evidence of micro and macro vascular complication. The aim of the present study was to determine the “Effectiveness of Buerger Allen Exercise on Peripheral Neuropathy Symptoms among patients with Diabetes Mellitus admitted in NIMS Medicity, Neyyattinkara”. The objectives of the study were to assess the peripheral neuropathy symptoms among patients admitted with diabetes mellitus before and after intervention in experimental group and control group, to compare the effectiveness of Buerger Allen Exercise on Peripheral Neuropathy Symptoms among patients admitted with Diabetes Mellitus in experimental group and control group, to find out the association between the pretest scores on peripheral neuropathy symptoms among patients admitted with diabetes mellitus in experimental group and control group with their selected demographic variables. Conceptual framework used in this study was based on the Nola J Pender‘s Health Promotion Model. A quasi experiment where pre-test post-test design was used. The data was collected from 60 samples. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The pretest and post test score obtained using Modified Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument (MMNSI). After the intervention of Buerger Allen Exercise among Diabetes Mellitus patients in experimental group, the average score of Peripheral Neuropathy Symptoms pre-test score was 13.500 ± 1.2798, which significantly reduced to 9.267 ± 1.0483 in the post-test. In the control group showed a negligible change, with the mean pre-test score of 13.967 ± 1.0334 slightly decreasing to 13.933 ± 1.0807 in the post-test. In the experimental group, which underwent Buerger Allen exercises, the mean relief score was 4.233 ± 1.33089, indicating a significant reduction in symptoms. In contrast, the control group had a mean relief score of only 0.0333 ± 0.18257, suggesting minimal change in symptoms. The independent t-test result (t = 17.1, p = 0.001) shows a highly significant difference between the two groups. Thus, it can be concluded that the Buerger Allen Exercise is statistically effective in reducing Peripheral Neuropathy Symptoms.
