The article analyzes the phenomenon of "joint retirement" in Russia, i.e., the coordination of spouses' decisions to cease economic activity. The study aims to empirically test the hypothesis of the existence and assess the strength of the mutual influence of spouses when making retirement decisions in Russia. The methodological framework utilizes data from the Russia Longitudinal Monitoring Survey – Higher School of Economics (RLMS-HSE) for the period from 2000 to 2023. The analysis employs methods of descriptive statistics and Cox regression (survival analysis), which allow estimating the probability of an individual leaving the labor market depending on the spouse's employment status, while controlling for a wide set of variables (health, education, place of residence, etc.).The results of the study reveal a consistent synchronization of retirement behavior among married couples. Descriptive statistics show that in 49.3% of couples, the difference in the timing of labor market exit does not exceed 36 months, and for one in four couples, it is 12 months or less. Econometric analysis confirms a significant mutual influence: a wife's retirement increases the husband's chances of leaving the labor market within the next year by 2.3 times, while a husband's retirement increases the same probability for the wife by 2.5 times. The practical significance of the obtained results lies in proving the existence of a spillover effect of pension policy within the household. This points to the need for modeling the consequences of future reforms not only for target groups but also for their family members, to avoid unintended impacts on the labor market.
