Locomotion-verbal dual-tasking at 1.5–2.0 Hz gait cadence may boost prefrontal-parietal oxygenation and parasympathetic reactivation.
Why the study?
Sedentary cognitive strain induces localized prefrontal hypo-perfusion, chronic sympathetic over-activation, and cognitive rigidity, while conventional neuro-ergonomics views dual-tasking as cognitive-motor interference leading to performance degradation.
This theoretical treatise proposes a mathematical and neuro-physiological model demonstrating how concurrent sub-lactate aerobic locomotion (1.5-2.0 Hz) and verbal dialogue synchronize cortical rhythms, enhance prefrontal-parietal oxygenation, and drive heart rate variability fluctuations to attenuate stress.
[Executive Abstract / 英文要旨] This treatise presents a unified mathematical and neuro-physiological model of neuro-cognitive coherence induced by the concurrent execution of rhythmic aerobic locomotion and dynamic verbal dialogue—a paradigm termed the Locomotion-Verbal Dual-Task (LVDT). In an increasingly automated computational civilization, sedentary desk-bound cognitive strain induces localized prefrontal hypo-perfusion, chronic sympathetic over-activation, and cognitive rigidity. Conventional neuro-ergonomics often views dual-tasking as cognitive-motor interference leading to performance degradation. Contrary to this assumption, we demonstrate that when aerobic exercise is maintained within sub-lactate threshold regimes (1.5–2.0 Hz gait cadence), mechanical and hemodynamic oscillations phase-lock with cortical electrophysiological rhythms (theta-gamma cross-frequency coupling), serving as an exogenous physical clock. This synchronization enhances prefrontal-parietal oxygenation via dynamic neurovascular coupling and upregulates neurotrophic signaling (BDNF). Furthermore, the interaction between verbal respiration and rhythmic gait drives non-Markovian long-range biological fluctuations across heart rate variability (HRV) and dynamic bio-impedance, actively purging stochastic cognitive noise and precipitating rapid parasympathetic reactivation (vagal tone elevation and cortisol attenuation). We formulate the governing differential equations, define the phase-entrainment operator, present wearable fNIRS/bio-sensing verification protocols, and elucidate the architectural implications for maintaining physical-layer Human-in-Command (HIC) and cognitive sovereignty against autonomous AI saturation. [Core Theoretical Highlights] 1. Phase Entrainment via Mechanical Exogenous Clock: Gait cadence (1.5–2.0 Hz) dynamically locks cortical theta-gamma oscillations, circumventing cognitive resource exhaustion. 2. Dynamic Neurovascular Coupling: Enhanced prefrontal and parietal hemodynamics measured via wearable multi-channel fNIRS, elevating oxygenated hemoglobin (oxy-Hb). 3. Non-Markovian Stress Attenuation: Long-range power-law autonomic fluctuations in heart rate variability (HRV) and respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA), drastically suppressing cortisol and sympathetic burnout. 4. Physical Foundation for Human-in-Command (HIC): Restoring sovereign cognitive resilience for mission-critical operators against automation bias and AI hallucinations.

Yoko Hasebe (2026) studied Sedentary cognitive strain and stress. Locomotion-Verbal Dual-Task (rhythmic aerobic locomotion with dynamic verbal dialogue) vs. Sedentary desk-bound cognitive strain was evaluated on Prefrontal-parietal oxygenation (oxy-Hb), cortical theta-gamma phase-locking, and autonomic stress attenuation. Locomotion-Verbal Dual-Tasking at a 1.5–2.0 Hz gait cadence theoretically phase-locks cortical rhythms to enhance prefrontal-parietal oxygenation and parasympathetic reactivation.
