Learning to write explanatory texts in grade VII students still faces obstacles, such as limited learning media that only uses textbooks, low understanding of text structure, and lack of student interest. This study aims to develop explanatory text writing teaching materials assisted by digital diorama for grade VII students of SMP Swasta Harapan 1 Medan and to analyze their feasibility and effectiveness. This study employs the Research and Development method with the ADDIE model consisting of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research subjects were 30 grade VII students. The instruments used included a needs questionnaire, expert validation sheets for material and design, teacher and student response questionnaires, and pre-test and post-test questions. The results show that the developed teaching materials obtained content feasibility of 93%, presentation feasibility of 94%, and language feasibility of 96.6% with a very feasible criterion, while the design expert gave a score of 80% with a feasible criterion. The Indonesian language teacher's response obtained an average score of 94% with a very feasible criterion. The effectiveness of the teaching materials is proven by the increase in students' average score from 66 in the pre-test to 87 in the post-test, which has exceeded the minimum completeness criterion (KKM) of 75. Thus, the explanatory text writing teaching materials assisted by digital diorama are declared feasible and effective for use in learning.
