Summary In this research, qualitative approach methodology was used, of an applied, descriptive, ethnographic and participatory nature. When experiencing a teaching experience in a quilombola community, the importance of quilombola knowledge became evident and the question was posed: is it possible to correlate informal quilombola knowledge with science teaching content, aiming for differentiated classes in the teaching-learning process and consequent appreciation of community knowledge? As a way of answering this research question, this study was developed with the aim of rescuing and valuing the traditional popular knowledge of the community, as well as promoting differentiated and quality teaching in the search for the construction of scientific knowledge, investigating knowledge quilombolas, and some of them were selected, and the preparation of cassava starch was then defined to be correlated to the theoretical-practical contents of science (Biology and Chemistry). The important role of women as guardians and perpetuators of quilombola knowledge is highlighted.
