Many preceptors assume the role without formal preparation. This quality improvement initiative established a standardized process for preceptor selection, education, and competency validation. At a National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center, prospective preceptors completed the Cotter Preceptor Selection Instrument, a workshop, and a competency examination. Pre-/postsurveys assessed role familiarity, awareness, and confidence. Among 51 participants, mean examination scores were 94.98%, with significant gains in preparedness (p<.001), supporting standardized preceptor development.
