The challenge of early and correct diagnosis of leukemia has been a significant obstacle in rural and primary healthcare centers (PHCs) especially in the resource-constrained environment. One of the largest healthcare system in the world, the Indian healthcare system also in need of advanced technology for it. The limitations of the diagnostic system, insufficient specialists, too long a referral process and socio-economic factors typically result in late diagnosis and poor patient outcomes. Recent developments in artificial intelligence (AI) provide potential opportunities to improve hematological diagnostic using automated analysis of routine blood parameters, digital blood smear analysis, and digital decision-support systems. The paper offers a synoptic view of the challenges and opportunities of using AI-based leukemia diagnostics tools in the primary care setting in India. The aim of this presented perspective is to reach researchers, clinicians, and policymakers for how AI-powered diagnostics can be introduced into primary healthcare in a responsible manner.
