The Sverdlovsk Region is an industrial area of Russia with a characteristic economic structure and a demand for specific competencies in the labour market. Obtaining relevant professional knowledge and skills that are valued by employers in the region is possible through the completion of supplementary professional education programmes by the citizens. Consequently, studying the regional factors that shape the demand for supplementary professional education in the needful specialties required in the regional market is an urgent task. The aim of the study is to develop a model for the professional training of qualified specialists who are in demand in the labour market of the Sverdlovsk Region. Regulatory legal acts and scientific literature on the issue under consideration are studied, and statistical data for 2020–2025 on supplementary professional education and the region’s economic indicators are analysed. An analysis of statistical data on the region’s key macro- and microeconomic indicators showed an insufficient level of a demand for supplementary professional education although the relevance for this type of education has grown significantly over the past five years. The increase in demand for education in sectoral areas did not always lead to a proportionate increase in the number of programmes; the possibility of distance education was not available in all educational organizations, and the implemented programmes did not fully meet the needs of the regional economy for qualified personnel. To address this problem, a model for the vocational training of qualified specialists was developed.
