The reaction of a slurry of V2O5 with LiOH·H2O and hydrazinium sulfate gives a dark colored solution that upon treatment with ZnSO4·7H2O yields the novel framework material (N2H5)2[Zn3VIV12VV6O42(SO4)(H2O)12]·24H2O, composed of three-dimensional arrays of the mixed-valence {V18O42(SO4)} clusters interlinked via {Zn(H2O)4} bridging groups, containing tunnels occupied by exchangeable cations and water molecules.
