We propose an optical see-through glasses-type AR display that utilises an off-axis, multiplexed holographic optical element (HOE) as an optical combiner. Based on an anamorphic freeform optics approach, we optimise the optical path from the eye pupil to the holographic display panel, achieving a highly compact form factor with a diagonal field of view (FOV) of 60° and an eye relief of 21 mm. A prototype in the form of eyeglasses is fabricated, and its imaging performance is experimentally verified. In addition, we present an optical design that incorporates a multi-point-recorded HOE to expand the eyebox, addressing the inherent limitation of Maxwellian-view-type displays. The simulation-based design shows the feasibility of significant eyebox enlargement (7 mm by 7 mm) while maintaining the compact form factor. This study provides practical insights into the design and optimisation of compact, wide-FOV AR glass display systems using HOEs as combiners, and further suggests a viable path towards improved usability through eyebox expansion.
