Rapidly developing left atrial myxoma confirmed after successful surgical excision in an infant.
Why the study?
Incidental detection of atrial myxoma in early infancy is rare.
This case report highlights the rare presentation and rapid development of a left atrial myxoma in a 10-week-old infant despite a normal echocardiogram at birth.
Alerts clinicians to rapid left atrial myxoma growth after normal neonatal echo in infants; leaves open etiology and surveillance needs.
We describe a case of a 10-week-old female who was incidentally found to have a large left atrial mass which was not present on an echocardiogram performed at birth. The mass was excised and was identified on surgical pathology as a myxoma.
